Prometheus’s Struggles with a Collectivist World (Anthem)

Prometheus is inside a world of collectivism. This world restricts its inhabitants including Prometheus. Prometheus doesn’t like these constrictions and foresees a problem with his collectivist world. Prometheus foresees a struggle with his collectivist world because of the lack of free speech, lack of acceptance of his ideas, and lack of individuality; however he will prevail because of his determination to make a change in the world.

Prometheus initially sees that freedom of speech is not permitted when he hears about a man who lost his tongue because it was cut out for speaking the word, “I”, an unspeakable word. This is a colossal indication that free speech is not permitted. Not having free speech indicates a struggle for Prometheus because he has many things to say that must remain unspoken. Prometheus wants to be able to question and argue about things in his world, but he cannot because of the lack of free speech given to him in this collectivist world. However, he will prevail because of his determination to make a change in the world.

The lack of free speech leads to a lack of acceptance of Prometheus’s ideas, which is an additional difficulty that leads him to foresee a struggle. Prometheus rediscovers the light bulb and shows it to the World Council of Scholars. The council rejects his ideas and decides to destroy his light bulb. This is an evident signal to Prometheus that his ideas will not be accepted. This indicates a struggle for him because he has many more ideas than just the light bulb that he wants to share but cannot because of his collectivist world. However, he will prevail because of his determination to make a change in the world.

The lack of individuality is a combination of a lack of free speech and acceptance of ideas. In Prometheus’s world, individualism is looked down upon, if not completely exiled. Prometheus has always been different even when he was young. He is stronger, taller, and much smarter than many other people in his world. This has caused many to look down upon him for being different. This kind of rejection is a very obvious sign of a lack of individuality. This kind of rejection makes Prometheus foresee a struggle because not only can he not try to be different, he can’t even be himself because he is looked down upon and exiled for being different in things he can’t even control such as his physical appearance and mental intelligence. But, he will prevail because of his determination to make a change in the world.

In conclusion, Prometheus foresees a struggle with his collectivist world because of the lack of free speech, lack of acceptance of his ideas, and lack of individuality. However, he will prevail because of his determination to make a change in the world. Prometheus had many things around him that would lead him to foresee a struggle with his collectivist world. Lack of free speech, lack of acceptance of his ideas, and lack of individuality are the three solid references, above all the others, that would lead him to foresee a problem with his collectivist world.
